Christmas Music, 2009

Christmas music this year featured the new Eddy bluegrass band and a pretty spectacular acapella version of "Silent Night" featuring a duet with Jamie and Julia, most of which is captured on poor quality camera video here.

In the Spirit of the Season

To promote the Christmas spirit, here is Steve's Christmas essay from last year. Maybe this will be the Eddys' It's a Wonderful Life.

Steve's Latest Radio Essay

Here is Steve's most recent radio essay, this time on his first trip to the Feast of the Hunter's Moon at age 51. By the way, these essays used to be confined to a local news magazine that WBAA produced which aired in the early evening on Saturdays and Sundays. Now they're airing the essays during Morning Edition and All Things Considered. Bonnie heard this essay during morning drive time and I heard it in the evening drive time. Kind of like . . . the big time.

Al Franken Shuts Up Joe Lieberman

Sen. Al Franken was presiding over the Senate healthcare debate this afternoon. When Joe Lieberman started to exceed his allocated time, Al shut him up. Sweet. Way to go, Al.

Another Reason to Despise Joe Lieberman

If you didn't come to despise Joe Lieberman for his monomanical support of the Iraq war, for campaigning against Obama with John McCain, for his grandstanding obstructionism on health care reform, could we win you over with indisputable evidence of gross hypocrisy? Lieberman is threatening to single-handedly destroy health care reform (which has progressed much further in the legislature than any previous attempt) because he has "concerns" about the expansion of Medicare coverage which he himself touted as part of a Lieberman substitute for the "public option" as recently as September. Witness the video clip below. Can't you just feel that "Joe-mentum"?

Holiday Choir Concert

The kids just had their holiday choir concert and I thought I'd share some video that Craig shot. The first is the high school Chamber Choir doing Slow Me Down Lord, and Miles has a short vocal solo. In the second (Bonse Aba), Miles plays the djembe. He was asked to do that during the rehearsal just before the show! It's fun to watch the moment he decides to forget about his music and just sing and play. The third is the middle school choir singing A Gospel Alleluia. Craig zooms in on Anna, Connor, and Julia. Watch for Julia's reaction when she sees some high school boys dancing in the balcony. You might also notice that Connor is missing about a foot of hair. The concert took place in a Presbyterian church near the school, since we don't have a space big enough.
