Melody Road

When driving to Indiana from the great state of Michigan, one will often encounter rumble strips that run across the entire length of the road.
Part of child hood was that upon encountering such strips, somebody would invariably suggest that songs, or messages, could be encoded in the rumble strips so that you could hear music or advertising when you drove over them.

Well, leave it to the Japanese to make your every dream come true.

I think it's worth pointing out that if you drive over it too slow, or too fast, that it just wouldn't work. Hitting one of these at 50mph instead of 30mph could turn "Afternoon Delight" into "Macarthur's Park." Although there are some clear advantages. For instance, one could listen to entire Beatle's records backward without having to risk damaging their valuable LPs, although it would be rather dangerous to drive backwards down expressways at such speeds.

Another fun thing to do with rumble strips is to lean to one side and pretend to fart as you drive over them. This joke is funny every time even if there are several miles of strips. Some would argue it gets funnier the more you do it.
