Best Father's Day Present Ever
This dark, grainy picture was taken by Susan with my crappy cell phone in an attempt to capture the flavor of my best Father's Day present ever--Phillip treated me to a Wilco concert on August 4 at White River Park in Indianapolis. You can sort of see the band in the red glow in back of us. It was a tad steamy, but a great, great concert. This disheveled father and son agree: Wilco is the best damn live band on the planet. Thanks, Phil. Thanks, Susan.

My jealousy can be counted in tons. Are we tied in Wilco shows, or are you still ahead? Did the band do it's repertoire of hilarious "rock moves?" Did they play anything new, or off of AM? Inquiring minds need to know!
This was my second Wilco concert, but Phil, Susan, and I also went to see Jeff Tweedy at Champaign. Nels Klein was very, shall we say, active. his antics and his playing add a lot to the show. Tweedy seems to be breaking in set of hand gestures to accompany his vocals, but he was very funny. They played two new songs, I think, five songs from SBS, and "Casino Queen" from AM (and most of the crowd seemed to know it). They brought a brass trio with them and played up every tune with brass Wilco has recorded; Tweedy seemed very pleased to have them with him. The didn't do "Shot in the Arm" till the second encore; I was getting concerned. Oh, and Tweedy wore a spring green sport jacket and sprayed himself in the face with insect repellent. Satisfied? Hope things are going well in VA.
