Cook much?
Does anyone know how to tell if onions are too old?

Where Eddy family members can blather on harmlessly about themselves, their siblings, offspring, other kinfolk, and assorted hangers-on.

Can't you cut off the extensions and cook them too? Plant thos suckers for better onions!!
I say let 'em grow till they're huge, plant them in the front yard, and use it as a substitute to a tree and start climbing.
