Shadow

We lost a friend on Thursday morning when Shadow was hit by a truck on County Line Road. Most of you have been drooled on, sniffed inappropriately, nearly tackled by an enthusiastic welcome of his, or, if you were less than four feet tall, probably licked in the face by him. But on his endearing side, he was always wildly enthusiastic about visitors and never snarled or snapped at any human being that I ever heard about (and, hence, a poor excuse for a watchdog). As Bonnie put it, "he was a happy dog." Six or seven years ago we rescued him from an unhappy life in town where he kept getting himself in trouble for wandering. He seemed to love it on the farm. He would pace and whine with excitement whenever I would sit on the garage stoop putting my boots on, presaging an opportunity to prance around the property. And he would coax the often-reluctant Cleo on canines-only rambles of the farm and the surrounding countryside. He unfailingly accompanied Bonnie on any horseback ride. He was a great friend and companion to Cleo, and to the gray garage cat who could often be found sleeping between his front legs in his dog house. He was sweet-natured and a friend to all. We'll miss him.

How sad! Our boys, especially Tyler, we'll miss him a lot. Eddy dogs don't seem to get along well with cars.
Deepest condolences from both Claire and I. Shadow was a sweet creature, and we'll miss him.
We know about losing pets, don't we? How is cleo doing?
He was very sweet and made me want another labrador.
I am so sorry to hear about Shadow. I will definitely miss him - such a wonderful dog.
